Letters About Kelley
June 14, 2004 Dear Kelley: Please excuse my writing because I can’t see good enough to keep the lines straight. Enclosed are the service sheets from my church. Had a special prayer for you. I think of you very often, about all the things you do for other people - like have a meal for two or twenty in just a few minutes, while knowing what each person likes or dislikes; take a piece of pastureland and turn it into a Mexican Villa with a lake and beautiful places for waterfowl to live; take care of wildlife from little birds to buzzards - won’t even kill a snake. I remember when you and Woody were up at my little house on Greers Ferry Lake and a little frog was down in a hole, couldn’t get out, and you got down on your knees and got him out. And making an old guy like me feel good by putting me on the front line of your Fourth of July Parade on your best horse, and for making me a leather belt with my airplane ID numbers on it. When I want to “show off”, I get out my fine cowboy hat you bought for me in Fort Worth. I still have all of the good things that you both have given me. That big party for the bus load of Bellingrath Family - you know how to do it right. The ranch house in Texas with a hot tub (no, hot pool) out back. The house you rebuilt in Wyoming that I haven’t seen yet. (Woody has told me all about it.) The trail ride we went on, that was one of the best days of my life. The way you want people to stop using chemicals in our food. It would be a better world if there were more people like you who cared. The way you treat people regardless of wealth, color, or creed - from poor guys like me to rich men like Pat Dye. Kelley, keep it up - we need you. God Bless You. Love, Richard (Hand written just before Kelley passed away and read at her memorial the following July.) Next Letter >>
