The KBC is a not-for-profit organization established in 2004 by Dr. H.B. Bartlett, DVM. Dr. Bartlett, Kelley's husband, chose to honor his love for Kelley and continue her legacy by combining her belief in the Cowboy Code and her adoration of birds to Enrich Lives, Foster Responsibility & Preserve Tradition.

Kelley Bartlett

In life, Kelley Bartlett was a tireless advocate for people and creatures in need. She was a true horseman and warrior for the underdog. She made no distinction between the majestic bald eagle and the scavenging black vulture. Her love of life and her creativity were eclipsed only by her conviction to simply do the right thing. She was an idealist who saw the true value in giving. Her philosophy was that your deeds came back to you ten fold. She understood that sometimes small and insignificant gestures could be life changing. Many times unsolicited, she delivered words of encouragement to the downtrodden, a gift to someone in need, a horse to a child with big dreams, care and nourishment to orphaned birds, clout to endeavors she felt were important, and even friendship to those who were forgotten. She cared deeply about conservation issues, the Cowboy Code, and the changing equine industry. She was the hope, spirit, and courage for those who sometimes had no way to continue. She was the rejuvenating life we all sometimes need. Her departure was unexpected and terrible - and many would have gladly traded places. She was creative, inventive, funny, wise, and even prophetic. She was gracious, selfless, and a true lady of vision. She knew what hard times were and she was lucky enough to know the best of circumstances. She also lived each day with great courage and poise. She was a perfectionist and believed in producing quality cutting horses. She possessed the capacity to sincerely believe in people's talents, abilities, and dreams, one of the greatest gifts anyone can receive. She was a very complex and beautiful lady. That's the legacy she left behind. No heart has been so large, no spirit so fierce, no soul so tender. She was also my friend.

While on July 11, 2004, Kelley Bartlett was silenced by pancreatic cancer ~ her optimism still inspires many, her laughter still echoes over the land, and her heart still beats with those who knew her. It is our wish to share her legacy with others so that all may know a better life. Please join us as we look to the future and embrace the past.
